We know that the Lord has given our church family a very special calling to minister to children. Through foster care, families and individuals provide a safe and loving home environment to children during their time of deepest need. At Cornerstone we want to support and encourage those who feel the Lord leading them in this special calling.

We work closely with our local Department of Human Services (DHR) to help support the work this agency does to serve children in our community. If you are interested in learning more about the process of becoming a licensed foster parent through the state of Alabama, contact mindy.carter@dhr.alabama.gov or tarnesha.johnson@dhr.alabama.gov at Lee County DHR.

The Big House Foundation is one of our local ministry partners. Big House is a Christ-centered non-profit ministry in Opelika, AL dedicated to meeting the needs and improving the quality of life of children in foster care. Cornerstone participates in many Big House activities including their annual Swimsuit and Towel Drive, monthly Kid’s Night Out program, their Clothes Closet, Santa’s Workshop and more. One of the best ways for you to support children in care and foster families is to get involved with Big House.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are volunteers appointed by a judge to discover the best possible outcome for an abused or neglected child’s future. CASA volunteers exist to help social workers, foster parents, biological parents and the Court better meet the needs of hurting children, and to give them hope for a better life. You do not need to be a lawyer or a social worker to become a CASA volunteer.  If you would like to learn more about this unique volunteer opportunity contact Pam Seidler at pseidler@twincedars.org.

If we can be of any assistance to you as you explore ways you can make difference in the lives of children in foster care, contact Jill Harris, Children’s Ministry Director, jill@cornerstonebuzz.org.
