Be a HOST Home this September

IfPost_darkGod designed us to do life in community; we weren’t meant to go it alone. Over the years Cornerstone Groups have provided that community for hundreds of people. What we know though is getting involved in groups at Cornerstone might not always be easy. There are many reasons that range from “I don’t have time in my schedule” to “There isn’t a group that fits what I am looking for.”

Radius Mission Camp Recap | July 2016

SlideWeb-RadiusLord, Have Mercy!!!  With the heat index last week hitting its highest mark of the summer, would you expect teenagers to 1) be at the pool, 2) stay inside in the a/c getting their summer reading done, or 3) pouring their hearts out serving others?  If you said option 3, we need to talk!!!

Cornerstone Youth was represented by 23 6th-8th graders and 5 adult/college leaders serving with Radius Mission Camp here in our community.

Nicaragua Mission Team | July 2016

God is doing an incredible work in Nicaragua through our partners at Christ Our Rock Church. The leaders there, Marvin and Gretthel Ramirez, have an incredible zeal for their church family and seeing it reach their neighborhood and surrounding communities. Nearly all of their work focuses on one of these three areas: 1) Pastor training and leader development, 2) caring for the immediate needs of church members (nutrition, housing, etc), and 3) discipleship/education/nutrition of the children in their area. So when Gretthel invited us to come and help host a Vacation Bible School for 60 children, we jumped at the opportunity.

Someone once said, “The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance.” That is so true! Any change requires the awareness of a need for change to take place and the acceptance that it must happen. If there is one thing that is 100% true in church, it’s that in order to continue moving forward there must be change. So that is something we at Cornerstone will continue to do in order to lead more people to know and serve Jesus.

Send a Kid to Camp! |WinShape Camp Scholarship Opportunities

wscDAY-2015_webBannerSummer is just around the corner, and we are excited that WinShape Camps for Communities will be coming to Auburn/Opelika for a second year! Please mark your calendars for the week of June 20-24. Cornerstone Kids and Youth, as well as kids and youth in and around our community, are invited. WinShape Camp is for kids and youth that have completed 1st-9th grades. S. Truett Cathy started WinShape Camp in 1985 with the hopes of creating a camp experience that would offer young people life-skills, adventure, lasting friendships and a closer relationship with God. Several years ago WinShape added Camps for Communities as an option to their overnight camp experience for the purpose of making camp more accessible to more kids.

Uganda:: Focus on the Child Development Program

Cornerstone’s first steps into Uganda were through the Child Development Program (CDP) of Africa Renewal University (ARM). We were introduced to the CDP and ARM when the Mwangaza Children’s Choir performed on a Sunday night at Cornerstone eight years ago. That night began a long partnership that has led us to where we are today in Uganda.

Uganda: Focus on Africa Renewal University

Africa Renewal University (ARU) is one of our partners in Uganda. They are a new university that was officially formed in 2012 ,and they currently serve 350 students. In their own words, they “exist to prepare Africa’s future leaders to face the challenges created by years of wars, child abductions, corruption, and poverty.”

We are excited to let you know that WinShape Camps for Communities will be back in town this summer! In June of last year, Cornerstone had the wonderful privilege of introducing what was fondly called “The Best Week Ever” to the best community ever, our very own community.

Eight years ago God opened the door for Cornerstone Church to begin a journey to partner with Buloba Community Church (BCC) in Uganda.  BCC was a new church plant in the Buloba community and part of the Africa Renewal Ministries church planting efforts.

Student Life for Kids Camp | 2016

July 26-29, 2016, at Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa, GA
For Current 4th and 5th Graders

Get away with your Cornerstone Kids staff and friends this summer for an amazing overnight camp experience. With SL4K’s we can expect an exciting time of worship, small group Bible study, daily quiet times, and wild and wacky recreation activities in a rustic but comfortable setting with lots of great food! At camp kids grow tremendously in their faith and their understanding of God’s Word, and the fun never stops! This year’s camp theme is Messy. Using Psalm 40:13 our kids will learn that even though their mess separates them from Holy God, the grace of Jesus pulls them out of their yucky muck and washes them anew. They will also see that God will use them for His glory – mess and all – when they repent and place saving faith in Jesus. (Psalm 40:1-3)

Cornerstone Youth Confirmation Class to Begin | 2016

IMG_1321This semester in Cornerstone Youth is gearing up to be a great one. Youth leading Youth is a leadership vision and we are seeing that play out on Sunday nights in such a great way.  We are wrapping up a series on the Gospel of John, and then we will shift our teaching focus to the Holy Spirit.  As part of our Spring Semester rhythm, we also provide an opportunity for youth to take a next step in their journey through Confirmation.

Update from Uganda | January 2016

As I write this, the Uganda team is on a layover in Amsterdam on our way home. We have spent the last five days in many meetings with many people in Gaba, Buloba, and on the campus of Africa Renewal University.

IMG_0320It has been a very productive week focused on identifying new vision as we figure out the changes our Ugandan partner, Africa Renewal Ministries, is making.

Cornerstone Youth//December 13, 2015

Praying for our college student volunteers who are taking finals this week and for our Youth who will be wrapping up the semster next week. To give adequate study time, there will be NO Youth Dec. 13, but be on the look out on social media for special Monday Midday outings on Dec. 28 and Jan. 4!!!
