Rhythm – Rest and Work, week 8 – July 30, 2017
Our purpose as branches is to bear fruit.
It is our responsibility to Abide. The Holy Spirit will bring about the fruit.
The Vineyard belongs to God
God has placed you here and now. The vineyard of your life is His.
I don’t know anything in this life. We have been asked to be responsible with what time/resources that have been entrusted to us.
God is the owner/gardener of this world and all who pass through it.
Psalm 24:1 – “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;”
God wants to bear as much fruit as possible from your Life
“Much fruit,” Jesus says. This brings the Father glory.
We don’t invite Jesus in to our lives, but we are instead invited in to His life.
- His life is counter-cultural.
- His life is wild and unpredictable.
- His life is the best life you could ever live.
Bearing Fruit is a life-long Endeavor
Not a one and done ordeal but “long obedience in one direction” for the glory of God.
Titus 3:14 – “Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.”
Psalm 1:1-3 – “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.”
“He isn’t impressed so much with the dimensions of our work as with the love in which it is done.” Brother Lawrence
Rest in him – Abide.
Work for him – Grow and bear fruit.
Do both for the love of God.
