Rhythm – Back and forth movement of even proportions.  Metronome is an instrument of rhythm and timing that illustrates the principle.

WEEK #1 REST (BODY, MIND, SPIRIT)

WEEK #2 WORK (A PART OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN)

Today:

Fourth Commandment  – Exodus 20:8-11Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Hebrew word sabat, which means “to rest or stop or cease from work.”

New “COVENANT”

A new deal was struck between God and his people thru the death of Jesus Christ. It was customary for a sacrifice to signify a covenant made between people or between people and God. So, THRU Jesus’ death on the cross we entered into a new covenant with God in terms of how we live holy lives and what the “law” means.

Mark 2:27 – Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.

  • Jesus came to fulfill the Law (i.e. bring it to it’s fullest purpose). He came to institute a new way of relating to God and living out our faith.

Sabbath Truths for Today

  1. When do I Sabbath?

When is the Sabbath to be taken? Is there anything special now about the 7th day?Resting in God—abiding in his presence—is the only way we can be successful in what he has called us to do. Yet how many of us schedule days of rest and relaxation on the calendar before we schedule meetings, conventions, and other days of work? Is this challenging to you?

It’s not so much about a particular day. Remember that’s the legalistic way of resting. It’s about a regular rhythm of rest.

  2. How do I Sabbath?

Mark 12:29-30 – “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

We love God with ALL of our being is what Jesus said. Therefore, We rest with all that we are. To rest is a holy activity.

    We use this word RECREATION

HOW ABOUT: RE-CREATION – the process of creating anew

Margins and space in our lives, blank spaces on our calendars, Sabbath time, can give us room to deepen our relationship with God and others. Margin has substance, and it intersects with how we live (our heart), how we think (our mind), and how we act (our hands). We focus because there are margins.

  3. Who Should I Sabbath with?

Extroverts are by nature, “solar powered,” their preferred energy source being external to themselves.

Introverts on the other hand are more “battery powered,” they prefer to recreate internally and away from external stimulation.

How about: Family, Friends, Neighbors, Yourself, God – Most importantly

Psalm 62:1 – Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.

Matthew 11:28 – Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
