13516354_975533199234867_2378048082661471681_nWe’re not just talking about fun in the sun! Last week hundreds of young campers from across our community came together to experience life-changing, memory-making, adventure-taking awesomeness that will impact their lives forever. There was Wacky Science, Under Construction, Archery, Girl World, Man Land, Musical Theater, Yard Games, Gospel Wednesday, Leaders in Training, Village Training, Wake Up, Power Surge, Musical Theater, Triangulation, Chick fil A and so much more!

This was our second year of serving as a host church for WinShape Camps for Communities. We partnered with WinShape a little over two years ago because of their mission to transform communities with the gospel of Christ and to reach the hearts of children in our own community with His love. Our community is one of 95 cities across the country to host WinShape this summer. More than 25,000 children will have the opportunity to hear the gospel proclaimed this summer in this unprecedented camp experience that was started by the late S. Truett Cathy in the 1980’s.

13495200_975533299234857_1490183790734101980_nThis year we knew we needed more space for camp and asked the Lord to provide an alternative site for WinShape. A few months ago Parkway Baptist Church invited us to use their facilities for camp. What an incredible answer to prayer this was! Parkway was the perfect place for WinShape this year, and their wonderful staff welcomed us with open arms. Many others from our community also supported camp. All three of our local Chick fil A’s provided lunches for campers each day, and on Friday Family Fun Day they brought a herd of cows and lunches for more than 900 people. Publix at Carey Creek provided snacks for the week, donating 1400 snacks for our campers. Toomer’s Coffee provided coffee for camp staff and volunteers. Chicken Salad Chick provided sandwich trays to help feed the WinShape staff. East Alabama Medical Center, The Hudson Family Foundation, Compass Bank, The Chizik Foundation, McCollum and Wilson Law Firm, and many other individuals from our community and own church family provided more than $10,000 in camp scholarships to help bring children to camp who would not be able to afford camp on their own. We are so grateful to all who supported camp this year!

volunteersWinShape Camps would not have the impact it does without the help of volunteers. More than 100 people served at camp this year. Some did laundry for the WinShape staffers. Some served daily breakfast to the camp staff. Some helped with traffic and parking. Some helped pack Chick Fil A lunches for campers each day. Some helped care for the younger children of volunteers. Many served alongside the WinShape staffers each day and poured into the lives of campers in their groups. On Gospel Wednesday several of our volunteers had the opportunity to lead children to Christ. Our volunteers made such a difference in camp this year, and we are so thankful for each person who gave their time to join us. We truly could not have done it without them!

13512116_975533269234860_8757492026201492222_nThe most important thing that happened at WinShape this year is that more than 330 campers from across our community learned the importance of following Jesus. Our theme verse was, “I am the light of the world, whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12. I am certain that the light and love of Jesus radiated brightly from the campus of Parkway Baptist Church across our community last week. Our prayers is that this light will continue to burn in the hearts of all who came to camp last week, and that our children will grow to follow Jesus wholeheartedly so that they too will shine His light for all to see. Go here to see a recap video of what the kids did at WinShape this week. Go here to see WinShape photos taken by WinShape staff. You can also “like” our WinShape, Cornerstone Kids, and Cornerstone Church facebook pages to see more photos from the week.

Please keep Max Bourne, our WinShape Camp Director, and his “Green Team” of 27 staffers in your prayers as they continue their journey this summer to seven more communities to spread the love of Jesus. What an incredible blessing they were to all of us! WinShape Camps for Communities will be back in Auburn next summer, and we can’t wait! We will keep you posted of all the details! Have a blessed summer!
