Our team just returned from Tipitapa, Nicaragua, last week. I have had the opportunity to visit twice now, and I have fallen in love with Nicaragua, the people, the children, and the culture. Ray and Sonya Abner have poured into this community for the last decade, and I am so thankful that God clearly placed them here at Cornerstone and put Nicaragua on our hearts! We are so excited about the partnership that Cornerstone is starting with Kosmos Ministries and Christ Our Rock Church. Marvin and Grethell (the pastor of the church) are amazing people and the vision of their ministry is so much like Cornerstone’s vision, simply leading people to know and serve Jesus and pouring out the grace of God on all.
Grethell is very passionate about leading children to know and serve Jesus as well. As a kindergarten teacher in Auburn and a team leader at Cornerstone in Pebble Path, I too love leading children. Being able to watch and learn from Grethell has truly inspired me in so many ways. They really hold value in pouring into the children, because they will be the next leaders! She holds weekly classes and works hard in educating the children on a spiritual level and an academic level. The children are so motivated by her teaching style and eager to learn.
While on this last trip, she expressed her desire to hold a Vacation Bible School for the children of her church. After a few conversations and a little planning, we knew that this opportunity would be a perfect way to start our partnership and first trip as a church. This trip will be directly working with Marvin and Grethell and the church community and children. We will plan the sessions before we depart, take all the supplies needed, and then under their guidance host a Vacation Bible School at the church for these precious children.
I will be brushing up on my Spanish in the next few weeks. Being fluent in Spanish nor teaching experience is required for this trip. You just need lots of enthusiasm and energy, a passport, and a desire to serve. The dream of this partnership is becoming a reality, and I hope that you will join us! You will indeed be blessed!
This trip is July 21-25, 2016 and will fill up fast. So act soon and apply by contacting Lee Cadden, College Pastor, at firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline to apply is June 26.
