“Awesome” is a much over-used word these days. But it seems to be the only word that captures what I’ve heard about the Bless Project we have been participating in over the last month and a half! I have used it over and over to express how I feel about the stories people are sharing. The best part is how it impacted the “blessee” as much as the “blessor” (not sure if those are actual words!). It makes me think about so many of Jesus’ words about how the kingdom of God works. In Luke 6:38 Jesus said, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.” The truth that Jesus is proclaiming here is all about being a generous person. Not just with your money, but with things like your love, grace, kindness and compassion. When we are generous with these kingdom things and pour them into the lives of others, there is a return on that investment. We find that one act of generosity causes us to want to do another and another! Actually that is my hope for the Bless Project. I’m praying this project of kindness would just be the beginning of a movement of blessing others. I’m hoping that giving someone a $20 bill would be something we are always prepared to do just simply out of the overflow of our heart. There are so many people we cross paths with on a regular basis who are ready to be blessed!
This Sunday we will celebrate the Bless Project. There will be many stories available in the lobby to read and a video right before my sermon that will share some of the stories. You will definitely want to take some time to read these stories and see how God has moved in some powerful ways.
I just want to say a big “thank you!” to those who gave the generous financial gift to make this project possible. Their belief in this vision is what made it all possible. I also want to say a big “thank you!” to YOU for being a part of this movement. It has given God a great avenue to share his love and kindness with many people. You are awesome!
