The Oaks Retreat is an annual retreat conference held by Auburn students for incoming freshmen at Shocco Springs in Talladega, Alabama. Each July more than 250 students gather to be encouraged, challenged, and equipped for the next four years. Many students spend the first several months wandering from this church to that campus ministry; the Oaks aims to give students a head start on their Freshman season of exploration by connecting them in small groups with student leaders who are already a part of and typically serving within a body of believers in Auburn or Opelika. Counselors, as they are called, serve as a voice of experience and guidance both at the retreat and over the course of the students’ first year away from home.
In years past, Cornerstone has been involved in various ways – from leading worship, teaching main sessions and/or breakout groups, connecting with students at the Oaks’ ministry fair, and sending some of our students. This year is no different, and I’m excited for us to be a part of welcoming our newest residents to the Plains in an intentional way. For more information about The Oaks Retreat, go here.
