I love that Cornerstone Church takes seriously the mission to love God and to love people. One way that I especially love to see God’s love in action is how during the (sometimes chaotic and mostly commercialized) holiday season, we work together to show God’s love in the community and world through tangible actions of giving and serving.
In 2012 and 2013, through our Food Stock Project, we have worked together to collect, sort and deliver a total of 22.5 tons of food to the Food Bank of East Alabama. In 2014, through our Conspire Uganda project, we raised $75,000 to help build the Africa Renewal University Medical Clinic for our partners in Buloba, Uganda. Now we have the opportunity to help stock the clinic for opening day and support local mission.
This year for Cornerstone’s Christmas giving/serving project, we are offering a catalog of opportunities – our own “Giving Catalog”. The first section is about Uganda mission, the middle section offers weekly devotions, and the last section is about local organizations. Each section offers information about the work of these partners and how you can help. You can order items to stock the clinic in Uganda or to support local mission. Once you decide what you would like to order, you can cut out the order form and fill in your selections. To place your order, bring your order form and payment to the “Christmas Corner” in the lobby on Sunday mornings or to the church office during the week, and we can process your order for you. You can also place your order online here.
Purchasing an item in honor of someone is a really great way to give a meaningful gift that makes an impact locally and in Uganda, and get some items checked off of your Christmas giving list!! (It would be great for teachers, co-workers, family, friends). If you would like to give in honor of someone else, just let us know when you bring your order form and payment to the “Christmas Corner.” You will receive a small gift box that contains a card that you can write your personal message about the gift that you made in honor of them.
14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[a] is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:12-17
P.S. As the designer of the catalog, it was a wonderful project to create. It was awesome to have the opportunity to communicate Cornerstone’s heart for putting faith into action and invite everyone to join us on that mission through giving and serving opportunities, as well as prepare our hearts for Christmas with weekly devotions.
The art and design is full of prayers for our friends in Uganda and our community, as well as you, the reader. I hope that the catalog will help you rediscover true joy in putting God’s love into action this Christmas…the day we celebrate how God’s Love came to earth to redeem and set us free.
