wscDAY-2015_webBannerAs many of you know, WinShape Camps for Communities will be coming to Auburn/Opelika for the first time ever this summer. The week of June 15-19 we will transform our Cornerstone building and grounds into a summer day camp for kids in our community. Both Cornerstone Kids and those who don’t go to Cornerstone, grades 1-6 (completed), are invited.

S. Truett Cathy started WinShape Camps in 1985 with the hopes of creating a camp experience that would offer young people life-skills, adventure, lasting friendships and a closer relationship with God. Several years ago WinShape added Camps for Communities as an option to their overnight camp experience for the purpose of making camp more accessible to more kids.

When we first heard about WinShape Camps for Communities, one thing we were impressed by was the outreach component. While offering opportunities for the kids at the host church is clearly important, WinShape encourages churches to reach out into their community and invite kids who would never have a chance to attend a summer camp like WinShape.

This is where you and I play an important role. WinShape has a whole system in place to make it easy for us to donate to scholarships for kids who can’t afford the full registration fee. We have many individuals, families and businesses who have either committed to sponsoring before the camp begins or who have already paid for the scholarships. But, we need more scholarship support.

The cost per camper is $199 for a full week of camp, all day Monday through Thursday and half a day on Friday. If your child regularly attends Cornerstone Kids on Sunday mornings, then the cost is $169. If you simply want to make a donation of any amount, because no gift is too small, it’s easiest through our online giving. Just go here, enter your amount, choose Hamilton Road site, and select “WinShape Camp” as the account.

If you feel a tug on your heart and are interested in more information about providing a financial gift from yourself or your business, please contact Keri Spurlin. Keri is our very talented Cornerstone Kids Creative Arts Director. She can answer all your sponsorship questions and make sure you know how to make a gift. The best way to contact her is via email at You can also call the church office at 334-887-1152.

We hope you’ll consider being a part of this life-changing event in our community!
