Prayer has changed my life.
Over the last year, God has placed a great friend and prayer partner in my life. Through our time together, God has gently spoken to me that prayer is not something that we are “supposed to” do as believers, but it is our communication and relationship with our incredibly amazing Heavenly Father! I have experienced prayer as something that “I get to do” and I long for that precious time alone with God.
God has given me an awesome opportunity to help start a prayer ministry in downtown Opelika, called Cedar Abbey.
Our vision is to have a place of prayer open in 2015, located in downtown Opelika, focusing on creative expression of the gospel through justice and community. This space will be located in the current Lebanon Art District, in a building on the corner of 1st Avenue and 8th Street. Our dream is to use this building as a third millennium monastery which will be a place of refuge, creative worship, and a base for missional living.
As we begin this endeavor that God has called us to, we invite you to join us in a week of continual prayer, unified together as a community. During this holiday season we find ourselves busy with different responsibilities, and this time of prayer provides space in our lives to slow down and rest with The Father as we connect to His heart.
Our theme for this this event is “community” because we believe God will build community as we seek Him together. This week of prayer will consist of one hour time slots that will span the 168 hours in a week. The prayer space will hold five prayer stations to guide your time with God: Worshipping our Father, Praying for this Community, Remembering the Gospel, Praying for the World, and Interceding for Others. Each station will offer resources that you may use to guide your time with God.
One of our dreams is unity with all the churches of the Opelika- Auburn area, so we are asking several local churches to partner with us to seek God together. Your involvement is what will make this week possible. If you have questions or just want to know more, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact me at email@example.com.
When: December 12 at 7 pm to December 19 at 7 pm
Where: 612 7th Ave., Apt #1, Opelika (Because the building for Cedar Abbey is in need of major renovation, we will be holding our first week of prayer at the Teel’s future home. Zach and Starlyn Teel have volunteered the use of this home before they move into it in January.)
