What’s so great about journaling? Busy lives = not enough time in the day. Journaling takes time…but it is time worth giving. Nothing is greater or more satisfying than looking back and seeing where God has moved in our life. Sometimes these movements are not what we expect… sometimes we see a no, but I am firm believer that no is really God’s yes. He knows what is best for us even when we are scratching our head wondering why things didn’t turn out the way we thought they would. Trust is a valuable gift we give to ourselves and one that honors God.

Journaling also offers a great way to clarify your thoughts, put your prayers in writing, and document important events in your life. As I look back through my own journal, I have found specific things I was praying for our sons…and how God has manifested himself through their lives, whether it is through a struggle or just great things in their lives. Through this, my faith is encouraged and I am reminded of how powerful He is in midst of everyday life.

One other facet of journaling is having a study journal, where you can follow along with a Sunday message by including the scripture used and what the pastor is teaching. I love the way God speaks to my heart as I hear an important word from him…and it occurs most often when I am listening through a message spoken by someone else. My hope is that each of you would consider journaling, whether it is just on Sunday mornings (which is a great start) or in your everyday life.

“I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.” Isaiah 48:17
