Here’s what’s happening this month at Cornerstone Kids. You will find information about what the kids are learning, preview videos, take home materials and more.
“Oh, I’m telling you the older I get, the more phobias I seem to have!” I caught myself saying this to friends in the church office this week. The more we stood there and talked about our phobias aloud, the more we all seemed to realize how strange each one of them sounded (except for what I deemed as “roach-a-phobia” that ALL of us seem to understand.)
My whole life I’ve grown up thinking as you get older, those phobias disappear, but as many of us have learned and as your children will learn this month in Rock City, that’s not always the case. The Free Dictionary (we like that one) defines a phobia as “a persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it.” So, how do we avoid the phobias and all the fears we face everyday? We remember our theme for this month and how to be a “Survivor on Phobia Island” through Christ; to outlast, out stand and out trust in the face of difficult situations.
So, this month in Rock City our virtue is Courage, being brave enough to do what you should, even when you’re afraid. Through the true stories of Joseph, Moses, Joshua and Caleb, your children will be learning all over again what this month’s Bible verse really means: “When I am afraid, I will trust in You!” –Psalm 56:3 NIV.
The story of Joseph will also be on your children’s hearts in Pebble Path this month. The theme will be taking them on a “Road Trip” just like Joseph took, through good times and sad times, to learn about God’s plan for his life and for theirs. Each week they will learn that “God made me special, God has a plan for my family, I can trust God even when it’s hard, I am part of God’s plan and forgiveness is part of God’s plan.” To reinforce these biblical truths, each child will be using activities to learn Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord.”
If you would like to see even more of what your child will be learning in Pebble Path and Rock City this month, be sure to check our Parent Page with preview videos, a Parent Cue App and helpful hints, it’s sure to help you survive the phobias of parenthood…one road trip at a time! Are we there yet?
