And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
We love spending time with your children on Sunday mornings! It’s an awesome privilege to be able to share God’s Word with them, worship with them and help them grow in their faith. And, for those of you who have spent any time in Cornerstone Kids on Sunday mornings, you know the effort we put into making a big impact in the lives of your kids for Christ. It’s our mission and our passion!
But, the truth is, our time with your children is limited. On average, children are in church two to three times a month, or about 40 hours a year. On the other hand, parents average more than 3000 hours a year with their children. With this in mind, we know that your potential to influence the faith of your children is far greater than ours. And, research shows that when the impact of the church is combined with the impact of a family engaged in nurturing faith at home, children are much more likely to grow up to embrace faith for themselves.
As your church, we want to partner with you as you seek to raise your children to love the Lord and to live for Him. And, we’ve got some great resources to help you do that.
We recently began a monthly blog to keep you informed about what your kids are learning in Pebble Path and Rock City. You’ll also want to look for our weekly take-home pages that you receive when you pick up your children on Sunday mornings. They offer wonderful and simple ways for you to reinforce at home what your kids are learning with us. We’ve even got Cornerstone Kids magnets so that you can keep these handouts on your refrigerator and refer to them throughout the week.
If you haven’t been to our Parent Page lately, you’ll definitely want to check it out. We’ve made some updates and added more parenting resources that you are really going to like. There are videos, a parenting blog and even an app for your phone. All of these tools offer practical tips and Biblical advice that will encourage, support and equip you to lead your family in faith.
We would love to hear how our Sunday morning Cornerstone Kids ministry and our resources for parents are shaping the faith of your family. If you’ve got a story to share, please email it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or just stop me on Sunday morning and tell me. We may use your story to encourage other Cornerstone families. I hope to hear from many of you!
