Here’s what’s happening this month at Cornerstone Kids. You will find information about what the kids are learning, preview videos, take home materials and more.
Have you made a New Year’s Resolution this year? How about last year? How did you do with that one?
This month, our Rock City kids will be learning about Determination, deciding it’s worth it to finish what you started. We’ll be incorporating a race theme to help kids understand our memory verse of Hebrews 12:1b, “Let us keep on running the race marked out for us. (NIrV)”
God never gives up on us, and just like He never gives up on us, He is living inside us and giving us what we need to keep going in doing what is right. The scriptures are filled with stories of people who showed determination in reaching their goals, but a key to determination is that it matters who you’re working for!
Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (NIV)”
There really is an element of faith that comes into play with determination. As kids dig into these stories from scripture on Sundays, the challenge for parents is to live out this Colossians principle of work.
In what areas of our lives to do we have a tendency to quit way too soon? Maybe things are getting too hard or not going as we’d planned; we aren’t seeing the results we wanted or feeling as happy as we thought we should. Without determination, there are certain things we will never see! Let’s be the ones who are willing to show determination and keep on going, showing our kids how to look to Jesus, who kept on going toward the cross to fulfill his Father’s mission.
Meanwhile, our little ones in Pebble Path will be learning about talking to Jesus, that we can talk to him anywhere, anytime, and about anything! Jesus really is listening, and He wants to hear from our children! Of course, their prayers may start out about pets and toys, but we’ll be examining different ways from scripture to talk to God–to ask for help, thank him for things, ask forgiveness when we’ve done wrong, or to praise Him. As our children grow, so will their prayers. Let’s lay this foundation for them while they’re little so that as they get older, they know that they can talk to God about all of the things they encounter!
Remember to also check out the take-home pages that we send home each week. They give great ways to reinforce at home what happens on Sunday morning. And, did you know that you can download the Parent Cue App for your phone or iPad? The Parent Cue App provides you with simple CUES throughout the week that remind you to pause and make the most of everyday moments to influence the faith of your kids.
