Here’s what’s happening this month at Cornerstone Kids. You will find information about what the kids are learning, preview videos, take home materials and more.
Decorations are up, scripts have been written, music rehearsed, lesson plans completed – we’re ready to celebrate the Christmas season! And we can’t wait to share it with your kids!
In Rock City, our elementary children will experience the wonder of the birth of our Savior by learning about Compassion. Our curriculum defines compassion as “caring enough to do something about someone else’s need.”
God saw our greatest need. And He did something about it. He humbled Himself to be born as a tiny baby in a remote town in the dwelling place of animals. He lived as one of us so that, eventually, He could die for us and rise again, giving us the chance to live eternally with God in heaven.
God’s example of compassion is summarized in this month’s memory verse: “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NIrV) This verse demonstrates to our children that God lovingly saw our greatest need and met it in the most remarkable way.
All that we teach and do in Rock City this month will help our children grow in their understanding that God showed compassion to us when He sent His Son to meet our greatest need. We reflect the character of God to the world around us when we meet others’ needs. As we demonstrate compassion to others, we experience transformation in our own life and begin to discover more about God’s great compassion.
We’ll also be encouraging our kids to participate in Cornerstone’s Food Stock 2013. Our kids will see that by helping to meet the needs of hungry people in our own community, we’ll be putting compassion into action.
Our little ones in Pebble Path will be celebrating the season too, with their own Christmas Countdown. We start the Christmas story with an angel telling Mary that she is to be a mother of a special baby boy. We then lead the children through the story to Bethlehem where Jesus is born in a stable and the shepherds celebrate His birth with even more angels. The Sunday before Christmas we pause to have a birthday party for Jesus. Happy Birthday, Jesus!
Finally, we conclude the month with a visit from the wise men. They arrived way after Jesus was born and celebrated Him even when it wasn’t His birthday. We’ll teach our children that we can celebrate Jesus any day, too. We celebrate Him because Jesus is God’s Son! We’ve even got a great activity that your family can do together all month long to help countdown to Christmas. We’ll send it home on Sunday!
December is going to be a great month in Cornerstone Kids! But, don’t let the teaching stop on Sunday. Remember to check out your weekly take-home pages. They offer great ways you can reinforce at home what your kids learn with us on Sundays.
And, did you know that you can download the Parent Cue App for you phone or ipad? The Parent Cue App provides you with simple CUES throughout the week that remind you to pause and make the most of everyday moments to influence the faith of your kids. You will receive prompts for videos, activities, discussion questions and more that follow along with our Pebble Path and Rock City lessons. This app encourages faith and fun for the whole family!
Merry Christmas from all of the Cornerstone Kids staff!!
