As many of you know, in the last 6 months our Personnel Team and Senior Staff Team have been in an extensive search process to identify a full-time Youth Pastor. After much networking, interviewing and prayer, our Personnel Team finalized the process last week by hiring Pat Bethea. Pat comes to us with 18 years of experience in ministering to students, the last seven of which he has served as Youth Pastor at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church in Mobile, AL. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University as well as Asbury Theological Seminary. But beyond the experience and degrees – Pat has a deep passion for reaching students with Christ’s love, nurturing them as disciples and connecting them to mission. He is a tremendous fit for our students and will be a great asset to Cornerstone Church.
Pat is married to Ann, a licensed marriage and family therapist, and they have a one-year-old daughter, Tallie. Currently they are making preparations to transition to Auburn, and he will officially start with us on May 15th. We are very excited about Pat joining our team and expectant about what is ahead for our students under his leadership.
Other great news to share is that we have recently hired Ginny Hand as our Youth Ministry Coordinator. In this new role Ginny is offering much needed support for the logistics, planning and volunteer coordinating of Cornerstone Youth. She is also giving special attention to leading the middle school part of the ministry.
Ginny and her husband, John, have been a part of Cornerstone for the last year and have three kids, all of whom are students within Cornerstone Youth: Camp, Kathleen, and Maggie. We are so grateful for Ginny’s servant’s heart and the gifts she is bringing to this very important work.
I also want to give a big thanks to Christopher Slagley who has stepped in to serve as our Interim Youth Pastor since last October. He, along with Lee Cadden, our College Pastor, stepped in to carry this ministry forward without missing a beat. We are so fortunate to have received their tireless leadership through this transition process. Be sure to give these two guys a big thanks next time you see them!
So there are great things ahead for Cornerstone Youth. Please be praying for all involved in this transition as well as for our leaders and students as they press forward in the mission of leading people to know and serve Jesus.
